Default What is a good portable, durable laptop for travel in Africa?

Small and light is good. So is a price tag under $600. I already have a MacBook Pro, so I'm not looking for high performance, just something for travel.

I have the HP compaq nc4010. It's great for travel. It's very light and really good, and I'm pretty sure the price tag is under $600.

A Toshiba Satellite or Lenovo Thinkpad should do.

Hmmm...I think you should go with a Dell. Check out the website.

To moron who said it would probably get stolen if you took it to Africa needs a LIFE seriously. Ignorant piece of trash!

$600 is a tight budget for a laptop. But if you need it to be durable then you need a Toughbook from Panasonic. You can drive a car over those laptops, they are really "tough".

You can find a used one on Ebay, for $600 it won't be the newest and greatest, but it will at least survive a dip in the Nile River.

I would use IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad series. It has durability for traveling. Choose R series if you want price about $600.
