In 1885 Barolong chief Montshioa became the first black man to take a trip in a hot air balloon !

I don't know that his name was ever recorded, however, late during the Anglo Boer War the Tommies used balloons for observation posts. Since it was a long assignment and no chance to come down for tea, they always took the 'Kitchen Boy' with them to prepare tea. As told to me by Great Grand Pa when I was a young boy.
