Default Decorating for children's church - Travel/adventure

We're doing a 12 week series in children's church called Passport to Adventure. The kids will have passports and the theme is travel. Decoration ideas? It's a small room and not a big budget.
I was thinking of using maps on the walls or something. I can probably get free ones from AAA. I'm afraid it'll just look like I taped trash to the wall though.
Any cool thrifty ideas for decorating a room in a travel/adventure theme?
Thanks

How about "passport to reality"? You can put pictures of dinosaurs and fossils on the wall along with pictures of how humans evolved.

Go for a framed look for the maps? You don't have to actually frame them--just a thick, square brown paper cutout that you stick-tack over the poster at the corners would do it.

If you really want to get fancy, stencil leaf cutouts along the sides of the paper and cut those out for a sort of very fake tropical/bamboo frame look. ;)

Magazine pictures of tropical places might work too. Bonus if someone has an old outdoor calendar.

Cut out the country/state in question, and paste it to some posterboads. The cut out pictures of what that area is famous for.
I.E. France. Get pictures of the Eiffel Tower, croissants, whatever you can think of and paste it to the posterboard with the map of France.

Take them on a travel adventure to New Jerusalem at Niagara Falls. They can learn about God and see some neat videos of the rapids and Falls.

first..ask everyone who works at the church for some of they're suitcases to use as props, maps on the wall will be wonderful, just set the tape on the back of the maps, and it won't be so messy, or sticky tack...etc. have the door they enter set up as an airport desk,

if you need some other ideas, my church would be great to contact through email, we have one of the greatest children's centers in the country, the baby area is designed like the ocean, the walls are painted blue with blue mirrors on top of the ceiling..it literally looks like you are walking through the ocean, and 3d sealife, and lights that make it look like water moving, etc...the elementary area is designed like a city, with theatres and cafes, ....its amazing....its northpoint.org

maps are great! but use things people have around-ask! magnifying glasses for their adventure, make a pathway(on floor or wall), stamp their passports every night/day they come, make a jungle out of construction paper if you want make it "look" like a jungle, have luggage/overnight bags sitting out to show that you are going on an adventure, use the acronym B.I.B.L.E.- basic instructions before leaving earth!, hang blow up globes, have the kids make globes themselves, use things like a compass, checklist, water bottles, and snacks.I'm sure there is more. But I'm going blank now.I taught S.S for 20 yrs. You name I have probably tried it! Feel free to e-mail me for more help.Good Luck! God Bless!- try google also.
