MasterCard claims 23 million "acceptance locations" in 210 countries. Visa claims "more than twenty million locations in more than 150 countries".

I am all about American Express for international travel, but I am sure Visa, MC, and Discover work well, too. Sometimes the conversions will get you , though. And take money of the country for tips.

Visa comes first them American express.

I have a MasterCard and when I went to Germany a lot of small stores couldn't accept it because it doesn't have an EU symbol on it...
