I travelled by train between Hangzhou and Shanghai for about 90RMB.
Trains were incredibly modern and clean. People are sophisticated and friendly in these 2 cities.
It is useful to know some mandarin or know a mandarin speaker - as not much english is spoken - especially in Hangzhou.

I've been to Bangalore and Goa in India - China was much cleaner - the people in China did not try to rip you off or hassle you like in India.
China is 1000 times better in my opinion.

I would not go back to India but would certainly return to China as it is safer and cleaner.

I recommend the Holiday Inn in Hangzhou - it is a lovely hotel - conveniently located. £25 per night for a 4 star hotel. Very good service.

Shanghai Nan Railway Station is super modern and comfortable. You can get straight onto the subway from there.

Meals were very cheap in Hangzhou - you can live comfortably for very little
